Herpes treatment with home remedies

When the skin gets infected with herpes, the symptoms can be managed with painkillers or other symptomatic relief methods at home itself. Here are few things that you can do at home for the herpes treatment.

• The first thing is that you must always take care of the hygiene. Keep washing your hands often at regular intervals all through the day. Try not to touch the sores. Along with washing your hands, nails ought to be scrubbed at least twice a day. Try to take shower twice a day and keep yourself clean.
• Drink a lot of water, minimum 10 liters in a day.
• The sores and blisters should be kept dry and clean by applying corn starch.
• If it for a women, powder of any kind must be avoided as this may lead to cancer of the ovary.
• Do not wear tight fitting clothes.
• One must always use underwear made of cotton fabric.
• To reduce the pain, ice packs can also be used.
• One must avoid indulging in sex at the time of outbreaks of the symptoms.

Herpes treatment for oral herpes

There are some anti viral pills that are used for treatment of genital herpes. These medicines can also be used for the treatment of oral herpes. There are some other ointments and creams that can help in reducing the time it takes in healing. But they do not eliminate the outbreaks. Here is a list of some of them.

• Penciclovir (Denavir) - the speed of healing the sores is increased by almost 12 hours. It is used to control viral shedding and also lessens the pain to a great extent. This cream must be applied within one hour of the appearance of the symptoms. It should be applied regularly after every 2 hours and this must be done for 4 days continuously.
• Docosanol cream (Abreva) - this is not a cream that requires prescription. This is to be applied when the pain or tingling feeling starts to occur. One must apply it in regular intervals at least 5 times in a day.
• Acyslovir cream (zovirax) - this would yield the best results when it is applied as soon as the first sign is determined.

Herpes treatment for genital herpes

It has been found that there is no drug that can be used for the treatment of herpes simplex virus. Even while getting the treatment done, this virus can be transmitted to another person or the symptoms may reoccur after the treatment is over. The drugs are used in this case for reducing the symptoms and so the time of healing can be improved.

Drugs like nucleotide analogues and nucleosides are commonly used for the treatment of genital herpes. These are anti viral drugs and are taken orally. With the use of these drugs, viral replication of herpes is limited and its spread is controlled from being passed to other cells. It must be noted that these drugs are not for curing the herpes.

Acyclovir (Zovirax or generic), Valacyclovir (Valtrex) and Famiciclovir (Famvir) are the drugs that have been approved for the treatment of genital herpes.

Other drugs used for the treatment of genital herpes are:

• Foscarnet - this is the most powerful drug and so far has been the first choice for all the patients.
• Cidofovir - this drug is very effective for controlling the attacks of many different kinds of virus and to some extent even the herpes virus.

There may be some side effects from the use of these drugs but they are not for longer duration.
